Walking up the way to Dave’s house [Name] froze as a snowball whizzed by her head. “What the-oof!” Another snowball socked her in the gut, nearly causing her to drop the present she was carrying for her boyfriend. “Hey! I’m not part of this war!”

Jake’s head popped out of one of the bushes and he laughed. “Sorry, [Name]. Thought you were John.”

Giving Jake a deadpan look, [Name] proceeded to lift her hair up, gesture to how she was dressed, and flip Jake the bird for even thinking that she looked like her boyfriend. Stepping up onto the porch, [Name] grimaced at all the ice and slipped backwards when her feet decided to go two different ways.

“Woah! I got ya [Name].”

Smiling back at her boyfriend who had caught her, [Name] laughed. “Thanks John. Oh goodness! Your hands are red and freezing!”

“They pulled me into an impromptu snowfight out in the woods,” John said, blowing on his hands. “I couldn’t say no when my best bro needed me on his team.”

“In, in, in. Come on, heat them by the fire.” Opening the door, [Name] greeted Rose and Roxy who were lounging on the couch. She could hear Karkat growling and Sollux snickering, but that was nothing new to her. Those two always went at it, even if they were best friends.

[Name] nudged her boyfriend over near the fireplace while she hung her coat up and placed his present to the side. Kneeling down next to John as he sat down, [Name] wrapped her own hands around John’s to help warm them up.

“Thanks, [Name]. You’re always looking out for me.”

Staring at her boyfriend and smiling, [Name] nodded. “Of course I am. We look out for each other John. That’s what happens when you love someone.”

John pressed his nose against her cheek as she laughed and pushed him away. “Jack Frost didn’t nip you, John. I think he completely bit your nose off. Have you eaten yet?”

He gave [Name] a cheeky grin. “Nah, Dave dragged me out to play right when I got here. I figured I would play until you got here so we could eat together.”

“I’ll make us a couple plates then,” [Name] said, rising from her place beside him and heading into the kitchen. She broke up a fight between Karkat and Sollux, reminding them that they were best friends, and that it was Christmas. Their fights were always verbal, but when Karkat got loud, he got loud. Taking two plates back into the living room, she greeted Dave and Dirk, who had joined the Lalondes on the couch.

“Nice to see you made it, [Name],” Dave said, giving her a smile. “Sorry about pelting you with snowballs.”

“Oh I see then. You made Jake take the fall for that one?”

“Course. I had to distract you so John could sneak up on you and save you from my icy porch.”

“Someone can really get hurt on that thing you know,” [Name] chastised, giving John his plate of food with a smile.

“Not under my watch.”

“If you say so,” she said, sitting down next to her boyfriend and enjoying the fire.

“I really can’t feel my hands now,” John said quietly, giving his girlfriend a sideways smile.

“Goodness, John.”

Setting her plate to the side and removing his, [Name] took his hands within her own and held them together. “Your hands feel warm enough, dear.”

“I know. I just wanted you to hold them.” He murmured, smiling at her a bit shyly.

[Name] smiled at her boyfriend and crawled over him to reach for the present she had set to the side. Returning to her place, she handed him the gift. “Here. I think you’ll need it for the coming hour or so.”

John gave his girlfriend a quizzical look, but poked at the gift in his hands. “Underwear?”

“John, why would I get you underwear and say that you’re goning to need it for the coming hour?”

“Because you’re weird like that?”

“Open the damn gift.”

John laughed and tore at the paper, his eyes lighting up instantly. “Gloves!”

“And they’re blue, just like your eyes,” [Name] said quietly, moving John’s bangs out of the way so she could smile at him without seeing his hair in his face.

“You always know what to get me [Name],” John murmured, pulling his girlfriend in for a hug and sighing. “I just wish you were that easy to buy for.”

“You’re my gift each and every year John,” she said simply, placing her head on his shoulder.

“Well yeah, but...This time I thought I’d get you something. So I did. A-and-”

“John?”

He reached into his pocket and fumbled around for the box. “So I thought I’d get you something that would make you the happiest in the world.”

“But John-”

“So, [Name], I was wondering-”

“Snowball fight bitches!”

Grasping John by the collar, Dave hoisted him up. “Ah wait! No Dave-”

“You got the gloves now, Egderp. You’re playing with us whether you like it or not.”

“No it’s not that. Daaaaaave!”

[Name] smiled and laughed at John’s frantic face when all the boys pulled him outside. “Merry Christmas John,” she whispered to herself, turning back to the fire before a small box caught her attention. “Hm?”

Running her fingers over the soft top of the box, she opened it and gasped, her gaze flitting between the door and the box in her hands. Closing the lid, she got up off the floor and rushed over to the door. Throwing it open, she was greeted with all the guys standing around John who was kneeling on the icy porch.

“Will you marry me, [Name]?” Her boyfriend asked, his cheeky grin alighting his rosy cheeks. Tears gathered in the corners of her eyes as [Name] nodded and tackled John, causing him to slip on the icy porch and fall flat on his back. “Ooof!”

“I thought you said no one would get hurt under your watch, Mr. Strider?” Jake asked, looking over at Dave.

“Sorry, I’m not wearing it right now so I’m exempt if his spine is broken.”
