{Part Three in the
      Halloween Series}

'Thy pearl is gone' the witch doth said
Immediately his heart filled with dread
'My pearl is gone? Blasphemy!
It's somewhere here, now give it to me!'

The teal eyed witch cackled and gave a wink
'I made a good choice with you I think!
Scour the earth until you find your prize
Eventually thou will'st see it before thine eyes!'

The fox now scours year by year,
Not finding his treasure is his biggest fear.
'Run, little kitsune, tear this world apart
I've always known that you were a Prince of Heart.'

-

Groaning and slapping at his alarm, Dirk rolled over and blinked his eyes blearily at the ceiling. Another day gone; another day I don't have my full power.

It was all because of that stupid witch that he couldn't even get revenge on because she went and got herself killed. "Fucking Terezi," Dirk mumbled, rising from his bed and throwing on a pair of jeans. Running a hand through his hair, he left his shades on the bedside table as he went out into the hallway.

Knocking on the first door he came upon, he called out, "Meulin. Kurloz. I hope y'all are decent. Come on to the kitchen, and I'll make some breakfast." Coming upon a second closed door, he eyed it with hesitation. Latula didn't like to be woken up too early, but he knocked anyway. "Latula, come on. Shake Mituna while you're at it."

Rolling his neck and popping out his shoulders, Dirk knocked on another door. "Kankri. Karkat, up and at 'em." Oh he hated waking up the twins, but what could he do about it? Kankri usually let fly a monologue fit for a villain about how Dirk was evil for waking them up so early, but they were under his protection, so he couldn't do anything about it.

After Dirk had become successful as a music producer in the human world, he had bought himself a large condo as an on the fly thing. Soon, it filled up with kitsune everywhere, and he was in charge of them all. And it continued to grow. First, the twins joined him. Kankri and Karkat were black Inari, both with eyes of red. Karkat's paws were red while Kankri's ears shown the blood color. When human, they both had black hair and red eyes.

Both twins had just one tail, so it was relatively easy to hide it from those who were unaware of their existence. Next came Latula and Mituna, a pair of Inari on the run from something. Hunters more than likely. Mituna had golden paws while Latula's were a light teal. Both of them were white in their fox form, but Mituna had blonde hair and yellow eyes, while Latula had brown hair with teal eyes when they were human.

Tuna and Tula had five tails each, so they had to be properly hidden before either of them could go to the skate park that they loved. Humans couldn't see kitsune tails, but those with the Sight could, and they were getting less rare by the day. Kurloz was next, a Black Inari with seven purple tipped tails. He also had white markings on his face, and when he was human he was graced with unruly black hair and indigo eyes. Tavros and Rufioh were next. They were brothers, with Tav being the younger one by a couple years.

They both had chocolate-brown eyes, while Tav had orange paws. Rufioh had orange marks down his back, like stripes, and their fur was brown. When they were human, they both had brown hair and maintained their brown eyes. Tav, however, could only use his legs in his kitsune form. As a human, he was paralyzed from the waist down. Dirk didn't spend too much time dwelling on it. Tavros had only one tail like the twins, but Rufioh had five like Mituna and Latula.

Lastly came Meulin. Kurloz had brought her along one day, and while Dirk tried to talk to him, Meulin read his lips and answered him. "He gave up his voice to Aradia so she would turn me into a kitsune." Dirk had raised an eyebrow, but the girl plundered on. "I cannot hear so well, so I read lips, but I can sign too. I used to be a Banshee, while Kurloz here always came and visited me in his kitsune form. We fell in love, and Aradia granted this for us." Dirk nodded and accepted yet another into his den of skulk's. Meulin was a black Inari, like Kurloz, and she had just one tail that was tipped with a forest green that matched her eyes. When human, her black hair was almost as untamable as Kurloz's was.

Dirk himself never showed off his kitsune. Refused to turn into him. His own fur was golden, and he had orange eyes along with orange-tipped ears. He had nine tails that were a bitch to hide, but Aradia owed him from what her sister did without consulting with her or Damara. She made him a potion, sent to his address each month that hid his tails away from everyone, including himself.

That's why he could walk around shirtless and not have nine tails fanning at his back like they were a prize to be won. All of the kitsune he took care of around his skulk were zenko, benevolent kitsune who just wanted a place in the world. Dirk had never had to turn away an Inari yet, but any yako kitsune would not be allowed. Dirk was pissed off at a lot of things, but it would take a lot to turn him into a malicious fox.

Entering the kitchen, Dirk wasn't surprised to see Aradia sitting there sipping tea like it was the most natural thing in the world. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked, grabbing eggs and cheese from the fridge before wandering over to the pantry to look for bread.

"I'm just here to check up on my Meulin," Aradia said, lowering her cowl with a sigh. "You've got quite the skulk here you know."

"What can I say? I'll protect these fuckers with my life. I'm the only one with nine tails after all, though Kurloz is pretty close at seven. Besides, why would I turn down an Inari that needed me? Even though your fucking sister stole away my Hoshi no tama. Do you know how it feels to have this empty feeling in the pit of your stomach that tells you, warns you, and begs you to find that missing piece? I'm at half power as it is because of my lost gem, so I'm afraid I won't be able to protect these guys if something happens."

"I understand. I'm not sure what Terezi saw, but the Megido Trio never does anything halfway. You'll find your gem soon."

"Yeah I guess," Dirk said, turning the stove on and placing a pan on it. "Got any news?"

"The King and Queen are expecting a new child after the twins they had a couple months ago, Jacob and Jane."

"Oh yeah? I hope John is doing fine. Is it gonna be a boy?"

"Girl, actually. They've been thinking Roxy."

"Sounds nice. Send my regards. I'd go there myself, but by the time I got back, my condo would be shredded to pieces. Meulin and Karkat are still have troubles controlling their kitsune, but Kankri's just fine. The kid's certainly got energy to spare with all the talking he does."

Aradia laughed quietly. "You're like a father."

"Yeah, somehow I just pulled eight fucking fox kids out of my dick and said 'here you go, live with me forever.' You're a real piece, Ara." Smashing the eggs with his spatula, Dirk was quiet for a second. "I've lived for over a thousand years, and I'm still learning new things everyday. If my life was made just to take care of the heathens that are sleeping upstairs, then that's fine by me. But the motherfuckers better get down here if they want breakfast."

"Dirk, if it eventually comes down to taking care of them or finding your pearl, which would you choose?"

Turning to the table, Dirk exclaimed, "What kind of stupid ass ques-Ara? You son of a bitch, you pulled your witch thing. I'm not talking to you for one hundred years god dammit." Dumping the eggs he had just made in a large bowl, he cracked some more in the pan and left the stove to look up the stairs. Karkat was just coming out of his room with a yawn, and the minute his gaze met Dirk's angry glare, he rushed off down the hallway and started yelling at everyone to wake up.

Smiling gently, Dirk returned to the kitchen and whistled to himself. If they knew just what a softie their 'father' was, then they wouldn't get up until past noon. Someone had to be the hard ass, after all. Hearing someone lightly pad down the stairs, Dirk turned to see Meulin sticking her head into the kitchen. "Yeah?"

"I was wondering if you needed help with something," she murmured, stepping fully into the kitchen. Clad in Kurloz's shirt and a pair of shorts, Dirk thought that she looked like a little kid. Laughing lightly, he reached over and patted her on the head. "It's fine, Meulin. Just make sure everyone is up and ready to eat. Though, you can set the table if you'd like."

The girl nodded and went over to the cupboards, grasping a stack of plates and heading back into the dining room. Dirk watched her tail swish happily and he shook his head. It was here they could be themselves without having to worry about anything else in the world. Latula stepped into the kitchen next, her five tails bouncing up and down as she moved to the fridge. Pulling a hair tie out of the pocket of his jeans, he reached over and quickly bound Tula's tails together.

"Hey!" She exclaimed trying to slap his hands away.

"Shut up, Tula," Dirk said, returning to the stove and his cooking. "You know the rules. More than one tail and they have to be bound together so you don't knock all my shit down from the walls or the counters."

"Mou, you're so mean Dirk!" She reached over and slapped at his back, grasping his jeans and pulling them out a little.

"What the hel-"

"So where are your tails?"

"You don't wanna know."

"Gross!"

"Hey, you thought it, not me. Now go get Tuna up. I know you're down here bothering me so he can laze in bed a little more. Meulin is setting the table, and because she didn't come down with Kurloz, I know he's still sleeping too. Up and at 'em, or no breakfast for either of them."

"When are we gonna see your kitsune? You've seen all of ours!"

Dirk gave Latula a look, and she eventually stuck her tongue out at him and rushed up the stairs. Turning the stove off and grasping the bowl of eggs, he set it on the dining room table and went back into the kitchen. Grabbing the plate of toast he had made just as he was finishing the last batch of eggs, he took that out and set it in the middle of the dining table as well.

Grabbing orange juice and milk from the fridge before he could forget, Dirk whistled and stood in the dining room doorway while he waited for the entourage of kitsune. Kankri and Karkat were first, and Dirk crossed his arms. "Show me."

Both boys grasped necklaces and lifted them up to show Dirk that they had their ruby Hoshi no tama. Nodding to them, he moved and allowed them through. Next up was Mituna and Latula. "Turn around." Mituna turned to show that his tails were bound. "Show me." Mituna held up his bracelet with his peridot stone, while Latula moved her hair to show her aqua gemstone earring. Dirk moved for them both as well.

Tavros and Rufioh were next, with Rufioh pushing his little brother in the chair. Dirk knelt down a bit and smiled at Tav. "Morning guys. Show me." Tavros pulled out his smoky quartz necklace, and Dirk rose back up to his full height. "Turn." Rufioh turned to show Dirk that his tails were indeed bound, and he presented his Hessonite Garnet bracelet. "Go on then."

Lastly, Meulin and Kurloz came up to Dirk. "Morning, Kurloz. Thanks for setting the table Meulin. Turn." Kurloz turned to show his bound seven tails. "Show me." Meulin presented her Emerald ring, while Kurloz lifted up his Amethyst necklace. "Time to eat then."

The three of them sat down with the rest of the group as the food was all passed around. Finally, Latula decided to ask. "Hey Dirk?"

Looking up from his meal, he raised an eyebrow. "How come you always see our Hoshi no tama to make sure we have them, but we never see yours?"

Taking a drink of orange juice, Dirk coughed. "That's because I have made it my duty to ensure that each of you never lose that power within your gems. You must keep them safe at all costs because somewhere out there, someone has power over me. My own Hoshi no tama was stolen from me by a witch who decided she wanted to play finders keepers with a kitsune."

The weight of his words fell heavy on the rest of the group. They all seemed to clutch their gems a little tighter to them. "After breakfast, feel free to go out and do what you like. Ara's in town for the day, so hopefully nothing goes horribly awry."

After breakfast was over and everyone had dispersed, Dirk drank out of his coffee cup and stared out the window. "I just wish I knew where my own gem got off to. Damn witches."

After relishing a few moments of silence, Dirk turned away from the window and headed for the door. Reaching for the knob, the door slammed open before he could grasp it and Kankri ran straight into him. "Oof! What in the world, Kri?"

"We've got trouble! I'm afraid that my younger twin lost control of his kitsune again and transformed. Being as I am his elder brother, I tried to pick him up and take him with me as if he was my pet, but then we happened upon some poachers. Karkat has never been in good with the magical poachers ever since our parents died, and he grew skittish and jumped out of my arms before running away! I tried to chase after him, but I lost him in the woods and I'm afraid that perhaps-"

"Kankri, shut the fuck up and call everyone back to the house. I'll go find Karkat."

[>Find the Black Sapphire owner]

"Thank you! Be sure to stop by again!" The girl smiled, waving her hand at her latest customers. Stepping out from behind her counter again, she grasped the broom and continued sweeping up her store. "Having a flower shop sure takes a lot out of you. Hope I do as well as you did, Grandmama."

Propping open the flower shop door to let a breeze in for the plants, [Name] hummed to herself as she turned up the radio to listen to something while she cleaned. Hearing an odd snuffling sound, [Name] propped her broom up against the counter and wiped her hands on her shorts. "Hello?"

Peering throughout the aisles, her eyes widened as she came upon a small black fox. "What's this now?" Backed into a corner, all the poor animal could do was swipe its paws at her. "Don't be afraid, I'm not going to hurt you." She knelt down and held a hand out with a smile.

The fox then noticed her necklace and padded over to her, sniffing at it. "Like my black sapphire gem? It's been in my family for generations." Stroking down the fox's back, she noticed a chain around its neck. "You got something here too?"

Suddenly, the black fox jumped up on her shoulders and wrapped its tail around her neck like a scarf. "Well hello to you too. What should I call you then? More importantly, how did you get here? I've never seen a fox with red paws before. Unless of course, you're a kitsune." The small animal nearly fell off her shoulders, and she laughed.

Taking a seat behind the counter again, [Name] typed away on her to-do list. "You shouldn't be so surprised," she commented as the black fox hopped off her shoulders and onto her counter. "I was born with the Sight, but I don't broadcast it. What's your name?"

Moving her hands, the small fox typed out his name with his nose on the keyboard. "Karkat huh? So, what are you doing here?" The small fox should his head, and picked up his gem with his mouth before touching her gem with his nose. "This is yours?" He shook his head again. "This belongs to someone you know?"

He yipped and nodded his head a few times. [Name] clutched at the gemstone. "Like I said, it's been in my family for generations. My grandmother passed it to me, who had been passed it by her grandmother and so on and so forth. I can't imagine what kitsune would be so irresponsible as to misplace his or her Hoshi no tama."

Suddenly someone accidentally slammed into the side of the door and growled. "Karkat, you little shit. Kankri's been worried sick about you."

[Name] glanced over at the kitsune and canted her head. The fox nodded at her, and she started laughing. "Well I think that answers my question."

She turned her gaze to the front again to see a tall man with orange eyes and spiked up blonde hair coming right for her - or rather, the fox next to her. "Seriously, you didn't think to call or nothing? I had to follow your scent here, and trust me, that shit is not good on my nose."

A smile played on [Name]'s lips as she watched the man have a one-sided conversation with the fox who bristled angrily at him. "You know," she finally said, causing the man to look over at her in surprise. "You're awfully lucky that I have the Sight, otherwise I'd think you were crazy as hell."

Dirk stared at this girl for a second too long without speaking, prompting her to raise an eyebrow. Finally, he cleared his throat. "Sorry. This kit had magical poachers after him, so you can understand our worry. We'll be on our way. I apologize if he's bothered you any."

"Not at all. Come again anytime Karkat. Preferably in your human form." The small fox nodded meekly, jumping up on Dirk's shoulders.

"So you didn't talk in front of her?" Dirk finally asked, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"You know I don't talk in front of anyone but those of our family, fucker," Karkat said, growling to himself. "By the way, she has your Hoshi no tama. Just thought I'd mention that."

Dirk stopped short. "What?"

"Your Black Sapphire? I could smell it on her. It reeks of your power, but it's been passed down through her family for generations, so I don't think you'll get it out of her that easy."

"You are quite correct, Karkat," Aradia said, walking on Dirk's other side as if she'd been there for ages.

"Hmph," Dirk said, crossing his arms.

"Come now, Dirk. Still thinking of not talking to me for one hundred years? I'll be a very lonely witch."

"What do you want, Ara?"

"The girl who has your gem is [Full Name]. It's something that has been passed down throughout generations of her family. Karkat is completely correct when he says that getting it from her will be hard because it is the last thing she has of her grandmother that her own mother did not throw away. [Name]'s grandmother had the Sight, which bypassed [Name]'s mother, but bloomed in [Name]. Right now, you look like you're walking alone down this street to normal humans, but to those with Sight, they see me and the black fox 'round your neck."

"So how do I get my gem?"

"That's up to you to figure out, my dear fox. Also, I won't be able to give you something this month."

"What!"

"Sorry darling. I'm sure you'd love to have your tails back. They should appear within the next few days. Ta!"

"That's it," Dirk grumbled, stomping his way home. "I'm not talking to that witch for three hundred years, and then some!"

"What was she talking about Dirk?"

"Nothing you have to worry about little guy," Dirk said, reaching up to pat Karkat's head. "Let's get on home, and I'll cook some dinner I guess."

Later that night, when the rest of the kitsune were slumbering away, Dirk watched himself in the mirror with a wry smile on his face. When the clock struck midnight, his nine tails shimmered into view. Their golden hue made his eyes hurt at first when they appeared, but finally when they were all there again, he shifted and stretched. It felt weird to have tails again, and he crossed his arms as he glared at his mirror image.

"Fucking Ara," he muttered to himself, shifting into his kitsune form and shaking off the odd feeling of having four legs instead of two he loped out into the hallway and down into the kitchen. Skidding to a stop, he reigned his beast in and transformed back into his human form, tapping his foot softly as he waited for Rufioh to stop drinking out of the milk.

Clearing his throat, Dirk startled the brown-eyed Inari. "What have I told all of you about drinking out of the carton?"

"Sorry Dirk," Rufioh said sheepishly, his eyes widening when he took in the nine tails currently connected to his guardian. "Your-"

"I know. Ara stopped giving me the potion, so now it's going to be a bitch to hide them."

"But, Dirk. You have nine! That's amazing!"

"It isn't anything special without my gem. Go on back to bed Rufioh."

He waited for the boy to head up to bed and when all was quiet, Dirk opened the front door and left the house. Sighing to himself, he shrunk down into his kitsune form and sat silently for a few moments. His tails brushed the grass of his lawn and made him scrunch up his nose. He would have to get used to using his fox form eventually, he supposed.

Shaking his whole body to try to get used to the feeling yet again, he took off down the sidewalk. Even though it was late, his destination was a place that didn't even need to be open at the moment. Coming to a stop near the flower store he had been in earlier, using his nose, he took a deep breath and turned his head.

Determining where the scent trail was leading him, he took off to the right and loped his way into a suburban area with cute little houses. Sniffing around some more, he hopped up onto a porch railing and gazed into what appeared to be a living room. Staring into the window for a couple more seconds, [Name]'s face suddenly appeared as she shouted 'BOO!'

"Son of a fuck!" Dirk exclaimed, falling off the railing and into the bushes below.

[Name] cackled and opened her door, crossing her arms as she leaned against it and stared at the man in her bushes. "So I guess I can scare the fox out of you."

Getting up from the bushes, he dusted off his nine flailing tails and dug into his jeans pocket for a hair tie before binding them together. Walking up onto [Name]'s porch as a normal human this time, he grimaced. "So you got me."

"Quite good I might add. Come on in I guess."

Dirk followed the strange human girl into her house and closed the door behind him. "So you must be the one then yeah? I have your gem don't I?" She took a seat at the kitchen table and gestured for Dirk to sit across from her. The man took the seat she offered and nodded.

"Yeah. I've been missing that for years."

"Just how many?"

"About three hundred or so, give or take."

"And you've managed to keep looking this good?"

"It's a gift."

"And a curse I bet. So, you want the last thing I have left of my grandmother."

"Pretty much. It was mine to begin with before some bitch witch stole it."

"Bitch witch?"

"Ah, she's dead now. Not by my hand, but ain't nothing I can do about it."

"So here's what we do, mister-"

"Dirk."

"And I'm [Name]. We're going to spend a couple hours getting to know each other, and then maybe, I'll toss my heirloom your way. But I want to see Karkat again. He was too adorable."

Dirk laughed. "With a mouth like a sailor. You're on, [Name]."

For the next couple of hours, Dirk and [Name] talked and chatted about their lives. [Name] found it instantly fascinating that Dirk was older than 1000 years, and rolled his eyes as he turned to show her his nine tails (after removing the hair tie of course). She had asked if nine tails was the highest amount a kitsune got to, and Dirk had responded with a nod.

In a matter of just a few hours, [Name] and Dirk had become fast friends, acting like they had known each other for years. At around three in the morning, Dirk's phone rang. "What in the-Meulin?"

"Dirk! They've taken Karkat and Kankri! Kurloz, Tavros, Rufioh, Mituna, and Latula shifted into fox form and took off in the woods. They're heading into the safety of Faerieland, where I told them to hide out with the Banshee's. I volunteered to stay here to call you, but I can't hear anything you're saying obviously. You have to hurry-no. NO! Dirk! Dirk!" The nine-tailed boy stood up so fast his chair clattered to the ground.

"Meulin! Meulin! Fuck!" Dirk exclaimed, snapping his phone closed. "I shouldn't have left. I  have to go save them! Please, give me my gem! Without my full power I don't think-"

"Take it," [Name] said, pushing it into Dirk's hands as he slung it around his neck. "Please, go save them and find them. I know how much they mean to you."

Dirk's eyes shined with gratefulness. "Thank you. Thank you." Taking off out of [Name]'s home, he jumped up and shifted into his kitsune form. Snarling and growling to himself, he sniffed out Karkat's scent, which had clung to him all day. Baring his teeth at nothing in particular, he ran as fast as he could. Nobody touched his family. Nobody.

[Name] watched as Dirk shifted into his kitsune form. Her throat felt so bare without her grandmother's gem. She had never taken it off before. Ever since she was born, she had worn it because it was a gift from her grandmother. Sighing to herself as she hoped that Dirk found those kitsune who were taken, [Name]'s head grew fuzzy as he dropped to one knee.

Breathing in heavily and closing one eye from the pain, she witnessed a dark haired woman standing before her. "Who...?"

"As my sister predicted. It is time for you to come into your calling."

"What do you mean?" [Name] asked, wincing as she fell to all fours.

"The power in his gem is gone. The power is with you, [Name]. Without his vixen by his side, the nine tails will lose - and the three who are yet so young will be lost forever."

[Name] winced at the bright light and collapsed on her floor. Moments later, her eyes snapped open as she stood up on all fours. Looking around and circling herself for a bit, she winced. "I'm...a kitsune! I have nine tails. How is this!?"

The woman laughed before her, crouching down to smile. "My name is Aradia, and I am one of the Megido Trio. My sisters, Damara and Terezi, both have perished but I am yet alive. Terezi took Dirk's gem to give to your ancestors to change something in this storyline. Obviously, she wanted Dirk to live, along with the three young kits that have been taken."

"By who?" [Name] asked, her tails swishing in agitation.

"We call them Magical Bounty Hunters. They are select individuals who share the Sight with you, but have chosen to use it in the wrong way. They kidnap kitsunes, merfolk, faeries, anything they can get their hands on. They use them for their own wrong purposes before they kill them - or worse. Karkat himself was being chased by a few the other day when he made his way into your shop. He instinctively knew it was a safe haven because subconsciously, he felt your presence."

"How do I find him?"

"Simple. Your nose knows, kitsune. Smell around where he stood and follow the trail of it. It'll lead you right to him." [Name] nodded at the directions Aradia gave her before tearing out of her house, her nose on Dirk's trail. I haven't known you for very long, Dirk. But god dammit I'm going to be there for you and those kits. Just hold on!

[>Find the Nine-Tailed Guardian]

Jumping and shifting into human form, Dirk growled as he found himself surrounded. "So, Daddy Fox has come to save the chits," one man said, throwing his cigarette on the ground and stomping on it with his boot.

Dirk looked over at the three foxes cuddled up together. "You guys okay?"

All three nodded enough to where Dirk could see that they still had their gems. Breathing out a sigh of relief, his eyes scanned the place. "Why take my kits?"

"Why not? All magical beings have some sort of power don't they? We can bind them to their fox and sell them out as exotic pets or skin 'em and use their fur. We could also make them into slaves. We've been lucky today. Three small kitsunes, a nine tails, one faerie, and a banshee."

"What?" Dirk growled, looking around. Finally, he spotted the woman. "Aranea!"

"Dirk! Don't worry about me; it's young Jacob you need to worry about!"

Dirk slowly looked the other way to see a small three year old in a cage. He lifted his face up, and Dirk sucked in a breath. "You kidnapped the Faerie King's son?! Just how mad are you fucker?"

"The little tyke was wandering about adventuring, and as long as we have him here, the King'll do what we want."

"Yeah if he doesn't kill you first! I've seen an angry John, and trust me, you don't want him on you. Or the Queen! Gods, she's a bloodthirsty one when it comes to her children. Just let them go!"

"No can do fox. Now, I'm going to give you one chance to shift or my boys here will start with your kits."

"Dirk, my throat is itching," Aranea whispered, tears coming to her eyes. "I don't want to sing any death songs for our kind tonight."

"Tch. Have a little more faith in me, Nea."

"You've got until the count of three. One, two-"

A white flash brushed past Dirk and launched itself at the man talking. He witnessed a glimpse of nine tails as the kitsune went for the man's throat and tore it out as viciously as possible. Turning her head, the vixen stared at him. "Use your power, Dirk!"

Swearing to himself that he knew that voice, he nodded and held out his hand. Drawing power from his gem, which strangely felt like it came from another source, his katana appeared in his left hand as he was ready to dance a tango.

"Let's go motherfuckers."

He whirled around the other men in the building, dodging bullets and using his sword as if he had practiced with it his whole life. While Dirk distracted the other men, [Name] wiped her muzzle on the dead man's coat and made a face. "Ugh blood." Opening the latch with her nose, she nudged the other kitsunes out of the cage.

"Meulin, you take Kankri and Karkat somewhere safe."

The kitsune girl nodded and motioned for the other two to follow her. Padding over to the cage with the small boy in it, she sat down and smiled at him. "I hope they haven't hurt you, young one. I heard that your name is Jake?"

The small boy nodded, swiping at some tears. "Uh huh. My real name is Jacob, but they call me Jake! I'm three!"

"That's wonderful, dearie. When I let you out, I want you to run over to Aranea's cage and let her out okay? Then go with her; she'll lead you somewhere safe." She nosed open his cage and Jake escaped with the banshee who threw her a grateful smile.

Letting down her guard for a split second, a man picked her up by her throat and started choking her. "Drop the sword, Dirk, or this kitsune gets it." The man shook her for good measure, and Dirk set his sword down on the floor. His eyes darted around. There was still three more, and one of them was holding this unknown kitsune before him. "Change back, bitch. Change the fuck back."

Coughing and clawing at the man with her paws, [Name] felt the change come over her as she shifted into human form, her nine tails sticking out behind her. "Holy shit. [Name]."

"A-Aradia," she said hoarsely.

"Must have been fucking Terezi. Let her go!"

"Hmm, sounds like someone important to you Dirk. I think we'll keep this one for a slave. She'll be nice compensation for the ones she let go free."

"I don't think so!"

Dirk looked up in time to see John angrily floating above their hands, his body outlined with magical power. The sheer force of his presence caused the man choking [Name] to drop her and step back a few feet.

"Kidnapping innocent magicals will never be tolerated in my kingdom. I especially will not know the word leniency because one of them was my son! Perhaps it's time we try to exterminate the threat of the hunters once and for all. Dave?"

Appearing next to one of the pillars, the Farshee chuckled and cleared his throat. "Oh yeah, these guys will definitely be dying tonight. My throat feels it. You took one of our own, fuckers. I don't take too kindly to guys who mess with my kin. Especially when one of my kin who is a kitsune now was also taken by you."

Dirk helped [Name] to stand, looking at her throat before addressing the men angrily. "You touched my kits. I've already killed half your men. You will not be leaving here alive."

Aradia smiled to herself as she sat up in the high beams of the abandoned factory, admiring the carnage down below. "Kitsunes, Faeries, and Banshees working together. Never did I think we'd see the day, my sisters. I wish you could be here with me. As it stands, we have just one more couple to unite. I'm not looking forward to spending some time under the sea, but we always knew best about how it would work out in the end. Ah well."

[Name] was off to the side, sitting down by some crates and watching the battle progress while rubbing  her throat. Little Jacob certainly did look a lot like his father. Minus the glasses. Jacob didn't have any of those, but the black hair and blue eyes certainly matched. She idly wondered if he looked like his twin sister, but then she was falling and all she could hear was Dirk calling her name.

[>Three days later]

Things were back to normal in Dirk's household. All his kits were still with him and alive, and minus a couple minor injuries, everything was bright. However, [Name] still hadn't woken up when she had fallen unconscious and that worried Dirk to death. After only knowing her for a week, he felt some kind of pull toward her as if she was truly made for him.

After making sure all his kits were fed that morning, he had hopped up the stairs and swung a left into his bedroom. Nothing. [Name] was still sleeping, and nothing had changed. Taking her hand, Dirk sighed. "I hope you wake up soon."

"She will."

"Jesus fuck, Ara, do you never knock?"

"Knocking is for humans. I'm here to tell you that Jane and Jacob are quite fine, and Jacob is especially interested in seeing your vixen again."

"You keep calling her mine. What do you mean?"

"You think Terezi stole your gem for no reason? Nay, Dirk. Did you not ask [Name] about it? Ever since she was born, she always had it on. Terezi warned her grandmother that [Name] always had to wear it, otherwise she would turn into a kitsune and all would be for naught. Over the centuries, her family's essence has seeped into your gem. The gem's power is now hers, which is coincidentally, yours. Did you feel odd when you tried to draw power from your gem?"

"Yes. It felt like it wasn't coming from my black sapphire. But instead, somewhere else."

"Bingo. She's just a little drained after being turned into a vixen and used by you. She'll get up eventually."

"Thank you, Aradia."

"Don't thank me. I was in charge of John, but Terezi was in charge of you."

"Fuck Terezi. You're here with me, now, and telling me these things. You get my thanks; not her."

Aradia smirked. Oh her sister would be turning in her grave. "As you wish it, Dirk. Take care." She disappeared from the room, but crossed her arms and sent some magic [Name]'s way. The girl sat up slowly, and looked over at Dirk who hugged her as tight as he could. They shared a few words, and he drew his face closer to hers-only to be interrupted by eight little Kitsune rushing into the room and hopping up and down, happy to learn that [Name] had woken up.

"You really are like a father to them, Dirk," Aradia said, turning away from the scene and closing her eyes. "At least now they have a mother. To the sea I go."
Oh my goodddddd *channeling inner Barley* This one is 19 pages too. I give the fuck up. I really do.

Also. I made an oops. xD When I made Jake/Jane John's kids, I realized that Jake had to be the Merman. SOOO. His son is actually Jacob, nicknamed Jake, and they're all gonna meet in the end so hashtag yolo swag okay.
